Propolis

Propolis with its most important components (approx. 1000 substances):

– 50-55% resin and balm (in Europe mostly from willow (Salix) , Poplar, chestnut, birch, spruce, fir and pine)

– 30-40% wax

– 5-10% antibiotic essential oils

– 5% bee pollen

– Flavonoids, caffeic acid derivatives, vitamins A, C, E, H a B, iron, potassium, calcium, copper, magnesium, manganese, selenium and zinc.

The quantities are maximum values.

Propolis is a rubbery, sticky material. It is one of the most effective natural antibiotics, has an antiviral effect and even kills parasites and fungi.

Benefits for the bees:

– Building material for repair and insulation work against drafts, moisture and microbes.

– Protection against infections (with 40,000 bees in a confined space) – Thin coating of the cells before oviposition.

– Coating of dead-stabbed animals (eg mice) to protect against sources of infection due to putrefaction poisons – Mummification without putrefaction.

Beware of propolis allergies or intolerance!
